Lop Buri lies north of Bangkok in the central plain and is one of the oldest cities in Thailand. The map has two distinct parts. The old town sits beside the Lopburi River, a dense grid of streets around temple ruins and palace walls. To the east, a newer town was laid out in the twentieth century with broad avenues and large roundabouts.
The old town was a second capital under King Narai in the seventeenth century, and the walled grounds of his palace remain near the river. Nearby, the Khmer-style towers of Phra Prang Sam Yot are famous for the troops of macaques that live around them and give the city its reputation as the monkey town.
A Lop Buri map poster shows both eras in one frame: the river and the tight historic core on one side and the geometric new town on the other, with the railway running between them. It is an unusually varied composition for a city of this size.
The historic core is packed against the Lopburi River, its dense streets surrounding temple ruins and the walled grounds of King Narai's palace.
To the east, planned avenues meet at large circles, a formal geometry that contrasts sharply with the older streets on the map.
The three Khmer-style towers stand beside the railway in the old town, the city's best-known sight and home to its famous monkeys.

Ko e ha Lop Buri
Lop Buri is remembered by visitors for its ruins and monkeys and by residents for the familiar split between old and new town. A map showing both halves is a strong, recognisable piece for anyone with a connection to the city.
