Los Toldos lies in the northwest of Buenos Aires province, on the flat, open land of the Pampas. From above it follows the classic plan of towns in the region: a rectangular grid of equal blocks with a central plaza, bordered by wide avenues, and beyond them, straight rural roads dividing the land into large fields.
The town is widely associated with Eva Perón, who spent her childhood here. It is also closely linked to the Mapuche community of Coliqueo, whose history in the area goes back to the nineteenth century and remains part of the town's identity.
