Luoqi sits on the Yangtze within Chongqing municipality, and the river sets the terms of its map. The town runs along the bank in a long band. Streets parallel the water, and shorter lanes climb away from it. On the far side, the opposite shore makes a second edge, so the river becomes a broad empty channel through the middle of the composition.
Towns along this stretch of the Yangtze grew up around river traffic, and that history still shows in the layout.
