Maştağa lies on the Absheron Peninsula, within the city limits of Baku but well outside its centre. It is one of the older villages of the peninsula, and its map shows an irregular pattern of narrow lanes and closely packed plots, shaped by courtyards and garden walls rather than any formal plan.
The surrounding landscape is flat and dry, typical of Absheron, with open land, roads and industrial sites spread between neighbouring settlements. Main roads link Maştağa to central Baku and to other villages across the peninsula, cutting cleanly through the denser, older fabric.
