Ko e mape
Middelfart stands on the western edge of Funen, on the narrow strait of the Little Belt that separates the island from the Jutland peninsula. From above, the town follows the curving shoreline, with its older streets close to the harbour and newer neighbourhoods climbing inland over gentle slopes. Wooded headlands and coves shape the coastline on either side.
What makes the map unmistakable is the pair of bridges crossing the strait. The Old Little Belt Bridge, opened in 1935, carries both road and railway, while the New Little Belt Bridge, a suspension bridge from 1970, carries the motorway a little further south. Together they draw two clean lines across open water.
A Middelfart map poster shows how closely the town is tied to the sea and to these crossings. The strait appears as a broad, calm band, the bridges as precise strokes, and the street network as a fine web settling against the shore, a composition that works beautifully in black and white.
The 1935 truss bridge and the 1970 suspension bridge span the Little Belt side by side, giving the map two strong parallel lines linking Funen with Jutland.
The narrow, winding strait runs along the town's edge, its curving shores and small bays creating a generous area of open water in the composition.
The oldest streets gather near the waterfront, where the compact grid of the town centre meets the harbour basin and the shoreline turns toward the bridges.
