Minas lies in the province of Camagüey in central-eastern Cuba, north-east of the provincial capital. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets on flat land, with a main square at its centre and the railway line running alongside. Around it the countryside opens into wide pastures and fields, crossed by long straight roads and a few small streams.
