Nalco, often called NALCO Nagar, is the township built for the National Aluminium Company's smelter and power plant near Angul in central Odisha. From above it looks like the planned settlement it is. Residential sectors are laid out in neat blocks, roads meet at clear junctions, and wide green strips separate the housing from the industrial area.
The smelter is the largest shape in the area, with long rows of potlines, storage yards and railway sidings that look very different from the small quarters of the township. Around them is the gently rolling countryside of Angul district, with fields, scrub and scattered villages, making the tidy company town stand out even more.
