Streets on contours
Many of the residential roads follow the shape of the hills, winding instead of running straight. On paper this creates a soft, organic pattern that shows the terrain without shading.

Ko e mape
Oraiókastro lies on the hills northwest of Thessaloniki, a few kilometres from the city centre and above the plain that stretches down to the Thermaic Gulf. The name means beautiful castle in Greek. From above, the town is shaped by the terrain: its streets curve along the contours, residential blocks step down the slopes, and open hillside and fields remain between the neighbourhoods.
Over recent decades Oraiókastro has grown from a village into one of Thessaloniki's main residential suburbs, and many residents commute to the city. Its elevation gives it wide views across the metropolitan area and the gulf, and it has become known as a greener, more spacious alternative to the dense apartment streets of central Thessaloniki.
An Oraiókastro map poster shows a place defined by height rather than by a grid. The streets bend and branch, and the older centre sits among newer developments spreading outward across the hills. The roads leading down toward the city give the design its direction, and the open land around the town leaves plenty of calm space on the page.
Many of the residential roads follow the shape of the hills, winding instead of running straight. On paper this creates a soft, organic pattern that shows the terrain without shading.
The main routes run downhill toward Thessaloniki, connecting the suburb with the city and the ring road. They form the strongest lines in an otherwise loose composition.
Undeveloped hillside and fields remain between the built-up areas. On the poster these gaps are just as important as the streets, giving the map room and rhythm.
