Ko e mape
Pangtara is a town in southern Shan State, Myanmar, on the high, rolling ground of the Shan Plateau. On a map the settlement appears as a modest cluster of streets, with houses loosely arranged along a handful of roads and fields starting almost at once at the edges. The pattern is informal, shaped by the land and by local routes rather than by any formal plan.
The plateau here is farming country, and the land around the town is divided into cultivated plots, small watercourses and patches of woodland. Roads link Pangtara to neighbouring towns and villages, and their gentle curves across the uplands give the map most of its long lines. From above, the overall impression is of an open, agricultural setting with the town as its quiet focal point.
A Pangtara map poster is minimalist in the truest sense: a small network of lines on a largely open field. That simplicity suits the black-and-white format well. For people with a personal connection to the town, the handful of streets they know carries far more meaning than a crowded city map ever could.
The main streets meet in a compact cluster at the heart of the settlement. This forms the densest and most detailed part of the map.
Routes leaving Pangtara curve across the rolling plateau towards other towns. They draw long lines that reach out to the edges of the print.
Cultivated fields and open ground surround the town on all sides. They leave calm, open spaces on the sheet that frame the small street network.
