Ko e mape
Pedra Preta lies in south-eastern Mato Grosso, a short drive south of Rondonópolis. Like many towns in the Brazilian interior, it has a regular street grid, laid out in straight blocks that read clearly from above. Beyond the edge of town the pattern changes abruptly to large fields, long rural roads and patches of remaining cerrado vegetation.
The name means black stone in Portuguese. The municipality belongs to one of Brazil's major grain and cotton producing regions, and the surrounding countryside shows this in its scale: enormous rectangular fields, straight farm roads and occasional clusters of silos and buildings. Streams and their strips of vegetation cut across these fields in irregular lines.
A Pedra Preta map poster shows a strong contrast between the compact grid of the town and the open spaces around it. At a tight crop the blocks form a neat, almost architectural pattern; at a wider scale the geometry of the fields takes over and the town becomes a small, dense square in a vast landscape.
The town is organised in regular blocks, producing a clean, repetitive pattern that looks especially crisp in the Classic black & white and Blueprint styles.
A main highway passes the town, a long straight line linking it to Rondonópolis and the wider road network of the Brazilian interior.
Around the town, large rectangular fields and farm tracks create a bold geometric pattern, broken by the winding lines of streams and their green margins.
