Pūth Kalān is one of the old villages of northwest Delhi that has been absorbed into the city's expansion. On a map it appears as a compact, irregular cluster of narrow lanes, clearly different from the regular sectors and plotted colonies that have grown up around it. The contrast between organic village core and planned grid is its defining feature.
Like many of Delhi's urban villages, it grew from an agricultural settlement into a densely built residential area as the land around it was developed. Its streets are short and tightly packed, with houses built close together, while wider roads at the edges connect it to neighbouring Rohini and the rest of the northwest.
A Pūth Kalān map poster captures this intricate texture at close range. The fine web of lanes fills the centre of the frame, while straighter roads and larger blocks define its boundaries. For anyone who knows the place, it is an accurate portrait of home in a city that is constantly changing around it.
The oldest part forms an uneven knot of narrow lanes and small plots, one of the densest textures on the map and the heart of the settlement.
Neighbouring sectors follow Delhi's planned layout, with straight streets and regular blocks that frame the village and emphasise its older, irregular pattern.
Wider roads along the edges tie the area to Rohini and the wider northwest of the city, forming firm lines around the dense core.
