Sacaba lies in a high valley just east of Cochabamba, where the flat valley floor meets the steep slopes of the Cordillera del Tunari. From above, the town fans out across the level ground as a spreading grid, while the mountains to the north leave a sharp and clear edge. Dry streambeds come down from the slopes and cross the settlement.
The town has grown rapidly as part of the wider Cochabamba metropolitan area. The main road connecting it to Cochabamba to the west is lined almost continuously with buildings. Eastward, the same road climbs out of the valley toward the tropical Chapare lowlands, making Sacaba a gateway between highland and lowland Bolivia.
