Saint-Mandé sits just outside the Paris city limit on the east, between the 12th arrondissement and the Bois de Vincennes. It is small and very dense, with apartment blocks and tree-lined avenues packed into a compact area. On a map, it is a tight cluster of streets squeezed between the city on one side and a large area of woodland on the other.
