Saktī lies in the plains of eastern Chhattisgarh, on the railway corridor that crosses the state between Bilaspur and the Odisha border. From above, the town reads as a band of streets following the line of the tracks, with neighbourhoods filling out on either side and roads reaching into the rice-growing countryside.
The town was once the seat of a small princely state, and it has more recently become the headquarters of its own district. That administrative role is visible on a map as a cluster of larger compounds and public grounds set among the tighter residential lanes of the older quarters.
