Saku Map Poster & Print

Saku lies in a high basin in eastern Nagano. On a clear day the active volcano Mount Asama dominates the view to the north. On the map, the Chikuma River runs through the basin, and the city spreads across the level ground between mountain ranges in a mix of older town centres, farmland and newer districts.

The Hokuriku Shinkansen stops at Sakudaira station, and the area around it has become a modern commercial centre. Saku is also home to Tatsuoka Castle, one of only two star-shaped Western-style forts in Japan. Its pointed outline is a small but striking shape on the map.

A Saku map poster has a lot to look at. The river curves through the middle, the Shinkansen and local lines cross in straight strokes, and rice fields divide the flat land. At the edges, roads begin to climb into the hills.

This five-pointed Western-style fortification is one of only two in Japan, and its sharp star outline stands out clearly on the map.

02

Chikuma River

The river flows through the basin, setting the orientation of the older town areas and the fields around them.

03

Sakudaira station

The Shinkansen stop has pulled new streets and commercial blocks around it, creating a modern centre in the basin.
