Saskatoon sits on the open prairie of central Saskatchewan, and the South Saskatchewan River runs through it on a long diagonal. The river is the defining shape of any map of the city: a broad band with steep, wooded banks. It separates downtown on the west side from the university and the older residential districts on the east.
Because so much depends on crossing the water, Saskatoon is often called the City of Bridges. Several road and rail bridges link the two halves, most of them close to downtown. Along both banks, the Meewasin Valley trails keep much of the riverfront green and open, so on the map the river is lined with parkland rather than buildings.
On the east bank, the University of Saskatchewan campus covers a large site with its own roads and green space, next to neighbourhoods laid out in regular prairie grids. A Saskatoon map poster brings all of this into one clear composition: the diagonal river, the bridges, the downtown grid, and the long straight roads running out toward the flat horizon.
The South Saskatchewan crosses the whole city at a slant. Its wide, pale band and wooded banks split the regular prairie grid into two distinct halves.
Several bridges cross the river in quick succession near downtown. They are drawn as short lines between the banks and give the centre of the poster a clear rhythm.
The University of Saskatchewan covers a large area on the east bank. Its curving internal roads, open lawns and buildings stand apart from the residential grid.

Ko e ha Saskatoon
People remember Saskatoon by its river: walks along the Meewasin trails, trips across the bridges, years at the university. A map poster turns that familiar geography into a quiet graphic piece for a home or office.
