Ko e mape
Calgary sits where the Elbow River joins the Bow, and that meeting point anchors the whole map. Downtown occupies the flat ground just south of the Bow, a dense grid of short blocks, while the rivers carve winding, tree-lined valleys through the city. Everything beyond extends outward in a system of numbered streets and avenues divided into four quadrants.
The city spreads unusually wide for its population, so the map is dominated by suburban loops and crescents between straight arterial roads. Deerfoot Trail runs north to south along the eastern side, the Glenmore Reservoir forms a large body of water in the southwest, and the open slopes of Nose Hill Park leave a big blank space in the north.
A Calgary map poster shows a city shaped by its landscape and by planning. It is known worldwide for the Calgary Stampede each July and for hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics, and the Rockies begin less than an hour's drive west.
The two rivers meet just east of downtown, their curving valleys cutting through the grid and giving the map its most recognisable lines.
Calgary's addresses are divided into NE, NW, SE and SW, and the straight roads marking those divisions are easy to trace across the sheet.
A large reservoir on the Elbow River in the southwest, surrounded by parkland, it forms one of the few broad water shapes in the city.
