Savanūr lies in Haveri district in northern Karnataka, on the flat uplands of the Deccan plateau. For more than two centuries it was the seat of the Nawabs of Savanur, rulers of a small princely state that lasted until shortly after Indian independence. Their legacy is still felt in the older parts of town, which on the map gather into a dense, irregular core.
From above, the structure is easy to read. A tight cluster of lanes and small blocks forms the historic centre, and newer residential areas spread outward along the main roads in a looser, more regular pattern. Beyond them the plateau opens into broad farmland, crossed by straight rural roads connecting Savanūr with Haveri, Hubballi and neighbouring towns.
A Savanūr map poster shows a town defined by its setting as much as its streets. Open fields surround the centre on all sides, so the built area stands out as a compact shape in a calm expanse of white. It is a clean, graphic image, well suited to anyone whose family story passes through this corner of Karnataka.
The historic centre, once the capital of a princely state, is a dense cluster of narrow lanes and closely built blocks. It gives the poster its darkest, most detailed area.
Straight roads leave town toward Haveri, Hubballi and the surrounding villages, cutting long clean lines across the flat Deccan landscape.
Wide cultivated fields surround Savanūr on every side. They appear as generous white space that frames the town and makes its compact outline easy to recognise.
