Ko e mape
Shahrud stands in Semnan Province in northern Iran, where the southern slopes of the Alborz meet the edge of the Dasht-e Kavir. The map reflects this position: to the north the terrain rises into folded mountains, while to the south the ground opens toward the desert. The city lies between the two, a compact arrangement of streets along the main east–west route across the region.
That route is the old road between Tehran and Mashhad, once part of the network of caravan trails across northern Iran, and the railway now follows the same corridor. Shahrud grew as a stopping place on this line, and its main avenues still run roughly parallel to it, with the rail lines and highway forming long horizontal strokes across the sheet.
A few kilometres north lies Bastam, home to the shrine complex of the Sufi mystic Bayazid Bastami. The city is also a university centre, known for Shahrud University of Technology. A Shahrud map poster frames a desert-edge city shaped by its crossroads: mountains above, open ground below, and the long road running through.
The highway and railway run through Shahrud side by side, drawing long parallel lines across the map and recalling the city's role as a stop on the historic route east.
North of the city the land folds into the foothills of the Alborz, where roads narrow and bend toward Bastam and the mountain villages beyond.
South of the built area the street pattern thins quickly into open ground, the first edge of the Dasht-e Kavir, leaving broad white space along one side of the frame.
