Ko e mape
Shintomi is a town in Miyazaki Prefecture on the eastern coast of Kyushu, facing the stretch of the Pacific known as the Hyūga-nada. The map shows a landscape of flat coastal plain and low terraces. Farmland spreads widely between the residential areas, and roads run inland from the shore toward the hills.
The town is home to Nyutabaru Air Base of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. Its long runway forms one of the strongest shapes on the map, a precise straight line cutting across the fields. Around it, small farm plots, greenhouses and scattered houses create a fine texture typical of rural Miyazaki.
Shintomi also contains the Niitabaru Kofun group, a collection of burial mounds built more than a thousand years ago on the terraces above the plain. A Shintomi map poster brings these contrasting layers of time together. Ancient mounds, modern aviation, farmland and coastline share one frame, a quiet view of southern Kyushu.
The air base runway draws a long, straight line across the map. It is one of the most striking features on the poster and contrasts clearly with the curving rural roads nearby.
The Niitabaru Kofun group consists of ancient burial mounds on the terraces. They are a reminder that people have lived in this area for well over a thousand years.
A long, gently curving Pacific shoreline forms the town's eastern edge. It appears as a smooth, open line against the detailed pattern of farmland inland.
