Sidi Slimane lies in north-western Morocco on the Gharb plain, one of the most productive farming areas in the country. From above, the town has a clear, fairly regular street plan. Beyond it, citrus orchards and fields are laid out in long rectangles, many of them served by irrigation channels.
The town has grown mainly as a service centre for agriculture in the region, and the Beht River crosses the plain nearby. In the twentieth century, a large airbase was built next to the town. Its runways are still a prominent feature on the map, set apart from the residential streets.
