Srīnivāspur is a town in Kolar district, in the south-eastern corner of Karnataka near the Andhra Pradesh border. It is widely known for its mangoes, and orchards cover much of the landscape around it. On a map, the town is a dense, irregular cluster of streets, with roads radiating out toward surrounding villages and toward Kolar, the district headquarters.
The Kolar plateau is dry, and for centuries farmers here have relied on tanks, shallow reservoirs made by damming seasonal streams. On the map they appear as scattered, irregular patches of water among the fields and orchards, sometimes linked in chains. Against them, the compact street pattern and radial roads of the town make a clear, readable composition.
A Srīnivāspur map poster makes a fitting gift for families from the taluk now living in Bengaluru or further afield, and for anyone who has visited during mango season. It holds the everyday geography of the town in one simple frame: the market streets, the neighbourhoods and the roads leading out through the orchards.
Orchards spread across the land around the town, which has a strong regional reputation for growing and trading mangoes. On the map they form open ground around the dense centre.
Traditional reservoirs appear throughout the surrounding area as irregular pools. They are a characteristic feature of the Kolar landscape and one of the most striking details on the map.
Roads fan out from the dense centre toward Kolar and the neighbouring villages, forming a clear star pattern across the flat plateau.
