Taixing is a county-level city in Jiangsu province, administered by Taizhou, on the northern bank of the Yangtze River where it widens toward its estuary. The land here is low and flat, part of the river's alluvial plain. Canals and drainage channels run across it in every direction, dividing the countryside into long, narrow fields.
From above, the urban area is compact, with an older centre marked by narrow streets and waterways, surrounded by newer districts built on wide straight avenues.
