Talavera lies in Nueva Ecija, in the middle of the broad Central Luzon plain that is often described as the rice granary of the Philippines. From above, the landscape is almost completely flat. Irrigated paddies spread out in every direction, divided by embankments, farm roads and small irrigation channels. The town centre is a compact cluster of streets at a crossing of main roads.
