The Acreage is a rural residential community in western Palm Beach County, Florida, and its map looks very different from the curving subdivisions of the nearby coast. Long, straight roads run in a wide grid, many of them paired with drainage canals, dividing the land into large rectangular lots.
The pattern comes from the way the area was platted, with generous parcels meant for homes, horses, gardens and open space. From above, the result is a quiet, repetitive geometry of lines and water, with individual houses set far back on their lots and patches of woodland and wetland between them.
