Três Rios, meaning three rivers, is in the interior of Rio de Janeiro State near the border with Minas Gerais. The name is literal. The Paraíba do Sul, the Paraibuna and the Piabanha meet here, and the town grew around their confluence. On the map, water shapes the whole composition.
The Paraíba do Sul is the widest of the three and runs across the municipality as a heavy, winding band. The two smaller rivers join it from different directions, so the centre is divided into lobes of streets separated by water and linked by bridges. Beyond the valley floor the terrain rises into steep, rounded hills, and development follows the gaps between them.
Três Rios is also a road junction. Major highways toward Rio de Janeiro, Juiz de Fora and the Paraíba valley pass nearby, which has long made it a regional crossroads. A Três Rios map poster pairs this meeting of rivers with a meeting of routes, which makes for an unusually dynamic layout for a town of this size.
Three rivers join close to the town. On the poster their converging lines create a natural focal point that few other small cities can match.
The largest river crosses the map in broad meanders. Its width and curves give the print a strong horizontal rhythm and a sense of flow.
Water splits the town into separate districts, joined by bridges. The result is a layered map with clear sections instead of a single uniform grid.

For anyone from Três Rios, the meeting of the rivers is more than a name. It is the shape of home. The map makes a thoughtful gift for family in the region or for someone who has moved away from the Paraíba valley.
