Uchkuduk was founded in the late 1950s in the Kyzylkum Desert to serve uranium mining, and its layout still reflects that origin. From above, it is clearly a planned settlement, with straight streets, rectangular residential blocks and a clear separation between housing and the industrial sites beyond. The desert around it is almost empty, so the built area stands out like a drawing on blank paper.
The name means three wells, a reminder that water, not rivers or coastlines, decided where people could live here. A song about the town by the Uzbek band Yalla became widely known across the Soviet Union in the early 1980s and carried the name far beyond Central Asia. On paper, Uchkuduk is a small grid surrounded by the long, straight lines of desert roads and rail.
An Uchkuduk map poster tends to speak to people who lived or worked here, including the many families linked to the mining industry who later moved elsewhere. It also appeals to anyone drawn to the geometry of planned towns, where every line was fixed on a drawing board before anything was built.
The residential core was laid out as a single scheme. Its straight streets and regular blocks read cleanly at any print size, from A3 up to 24×36″.
Beyond the edge of town the Kyzylkum stretches away with very few features, so the settlement sits on the page as a distinct, self-contained shape.
Long, straight roads and a railway leave the town across the desert, linking it with the mining sites and with other settlements in the region.

Ko e ha Uchkuduk
People who grew up in Uchkuduk often remember its layout clearly: the blocks, the yards between them, the road out into the desert. A map poster turns that memory into a clean, architectural image that suits a modern interior.
