Vĩnh Long lies in the heart of Vietnam's Mekong Delta, on the Cổ Chiên, one of the main branches of the Mekong. On the map the city sits on a broad waterway, with smaller rivers and canals threading through and around it. Across the water, large river islands are divided into a fine mesh of orchards and channels. It is a landscape shaped as much by water as by roads.
The city is a traditional gateway to delta life. Boats cross to An Bình and neighbouring islands, known for fruit gardens and homestays along the canals. The Mỹ Thuận Bridge, Vietnam's first large cable-stayed bridge, opened in 2000 and carries the main highway across the Tiền River nearby. It connects Vĩnh Long with the road north to Ho Chi Minh City.
A Vĩnh Long map poster captures that interplay of city blocks and waterways. There is a compact urban centre on the riverbank, a wide river channel and islands laced with canals. In black and white the delta's network of water becomes a delicate, almost woven pattern.
A broad branch of the Mekong runs past the city. On the poster it is a wide, calm band that separates the urban core from the islands opposite.
Islands such as An Bình are divided by narrow canals into small plots and gardens. From above, their fine, irregular pattern is the most intricate part of the map.
Smaller rivers and canals run into and through the city itself. They break the street network into distinct blocks and show how central water is to daily life here.
