Volzhsky faces Volgograd across the Volga, and its origins are tied directly to the river. The city was built in the 1950s as a settlement for the workers constructing the Volga Hydroelectric Station. That dam now carries a road and railway over the river at the city's northern end, and from above it forms a bold straight line across the water.
Because it was planned from scratch, Volzhsky has one of the clearest layouts in the region. Wide avenues run in long parallel lines, crossed at regular intervals, with large residential blocks and generous green strips between them. The early central districts show the formal symmetry of the postwar period. Later microdistricts extend the grid outward in bigger, simpler units.
To the east the city is bounded by the Akhtuba, a branch of the Volga. Beyond it lies the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain, a wide landscape of channels, lakes and wetlands protected as a nature park. A Volzhsky map poster balances the two sides: the ordered city and the winding waterways around it.
The Volga Hydroelectric Station crosses the river north of the city. It is a straight, heavy line on the map and also serves as the road link to Volgograd.
Broad, straight avenues divide the city into large regular blocks. This gives Volzhsky a geometric clarity that reads especially well in fine black lines.
East of the city, the Akhtuba and the many channels and oxbow lakes of the floodplain create an intricate, organic texture that frames the grid.

Ko e ha Volzhsky
Volzhsky appeals to people who grew up in its microdistricts and to anyone who likes the logic of a planned city seen from above. The contrast between straight avenues and winding floodplain water makes the print interesting even as pure graphic design.
Add a title and subtitle, such as a district, a year or a family name, and adjust the coordinates line. The five styles, Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, suit everything from a modern flat to a study.
