Wendo is a town in the Sidama region of southern Ethiopia, in the highlands south of Hawassa. The area is green and densely farmed, and the map shows a town strung along the main road with lanes branching off into the surrounding hills.
Past the town centre, the landscape is a mosaic of small farms. Homesteads are scattered among gardens of enset, the false banana that is a staple food in the region, and coffee grows under the trees. Footpaths and small roads cross the slopes, and streams cut into the valleys between them.
