Yanam Map Poster & Print
Yanam is a small town on the Godavari delta, surrounded by the state of Andhra Pradesh but administered as part of the Union Territory of Puducherry. From above, the town is compact, sitting on a bend where branches of the river divide and wind through flat, green delta land toward the coast.
For about two centuries Yanam was a French trading post, and it joined India only in the 1950s together with Puducherry, Karaikal and Mahé. Traces of that time remain in the town's buildings and institutions, even though Telugu is the everyday language.
