Yeoju lies in eastern Gyeonggi-do, where the Namhan River widens as it flows toward Seoul. The town centre sits on the riverbank, and from above the water is the largest shape on the page. It is a wide, pale band that bends past the streets and separates the built-up core from the flat farmland beyond.
The area is known for its rice and for ceramics. Kilns and pottery workshops have worked here for generations, and the town holds a well-known ceramics festival. Just outside the centre is Yeongneung, the royal tomb of King Sejong, who created the Korean alphabet. Its wooded grounds show as a quiet green patch among the fields.
A Yeoju map poster shows the town at a scale where the river, its bridges and the scattered hamlets fit together. Denser streets gather near the water, then thin into a patchwork of fields and low hills. Yeoju became a city only in 2013, and much of it still reads as open country.
The river's wide channel runs through the composition. On the riverbank stands Silleuksa, a temple set directly by the water, which is rare among Korean temples.
The forested precinct of Yeongneung, King Sejong's burial site, makes a soft, unbroken area on the map. Few streets cross it, so it reads clearly against the surrounding farmland.
Around the centre, rectangular paddies and rural lanes form a fine geometric texture. The pattern is very different from the tighter blocks near the river.
