De kaart
Baqubah Map Poster & Print
Baqubah lies roughly 50 kilometres north-east of Baghdad, on the Diyala River as it winds across the plain toward the Tigris. From above, the city is divided by the river's bends. The centre and its markets sit along the banks, and residential districts extend outward along the main roads. The edges are soft rather than sharp and fade gradually into cultivated land.
The surrounding countryside is among the most fertile in Iraq, watered by the Diyala and a network of irrigation canals. The province is known for its citrus, especially oranges, as well as dates and other fruit. As the provincial capital, Baqubah is the administrative and trading centre for a region that reaches east toward the Iranian border.
On a Baqubah map poster, the river is the organising line. It loops through the city and is crossed by a handful of bridges, while the finer mesh of streets gives way to the geometry of fields and canals. Printed in black and white, it becomes a calm portrait of a river city and the green land around it.

Orchard belt
Groves of citrus and date palms surround the built-up area. On the map they appear as a fine pattern of plots, farm tracks and irrigation ditches.
Roads to Baghdad
Main roads leave the city toward the south-west and Baghdad. Their straight lines contrast with the looping river and the irregular orchard tracks around them.
