A field pattern
Long rectangular plots and straight field roads surround the town. They form a fine, regular texture that fills the outer parts of the poster.

De kaart
Chaigou Map Poster & Print
Chaigou lies in the interior of Shandong province, in the farming country of the Weifang region. From above, it is a town of fairly regular streets set in a wide agricultural landscape. The fields around it are divided into long, narrow strips and rectangles, and straight field roads and drainage lines cut through them in a pattern that reaches to every edge of the map.
There is little here that appears in travel writing, and the poster does not claim otherwise. What it shows is the clear, practical geometry of a town on the North China Plain: a main road or two through the centre, blocks of houses and workshops, and then fields. The boundary between town and country is easy to trace.
A Chaigou map poster is mostly made for people with a personal link to the place, for example those who grew up there, left for a larger city or still have family nearby. Printed in black and white, the town's plain grid and the texture of its fields make a restrained, graphic image that carries more meaning than its size would suggest.

A compact centre
The town's built-up area is compact, with blocks laid out along a few main streets. It reads as a dense patch in the middle of open country.
Straight connecting roads
Roads run out from the centre across flat land towards neighbouring towns and villages. They are straight and well defined, with few curves.
