Hillside streets
Streets follow contour lines around the ridges, which gives the central neighbourhoods a curving, layered pattern instead of a regular grid.

Itabira Map Poster & Print
Itabira sits among the iron-rich hills of central Minas Gerais, and its street plan follows the terrain closely. Roads curve along slopes and fold back on themselves, and the older centre fits into a narrow, uneven basin. On a map, few blocks are square. Most of the town is a mesh of short, bending streets shaped by the hills.
The town's name is linked to iron ore. Itabira was where the mining company Vale, originally Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, was founded in 1942, and large mining areas still sit beside the urban fabric. Itabira is also the birthplace of the poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade, who wrote about the town and its mountain throughout his life.
An Itabira map poster captures that contrast between a close-knit hill town and the engineered terraces of the mines nearby. In monochrome, the tight residential streets become a fine, dense texture, and the broad industrial zones read as open, stepped shapes. It is a map of a place where geology and daily life sit side by side.

Mining terraces
Large extraction areas next to the town show as broad, stepped forms, a clear break from the fine grain of the residential streets.
Poet's hometown
Carlos Drummond de Andrade was born here, and the town he often wrote about still keeps its old centre in the valley between the hills.

Waarom Itabira
Een kaart met betekenis
Itabira is a natural choice for readers of Drummond, for families whose lives were tied to the mines, or for anyone from Minas Gerais who knows these hill towns well. The poster is a quiet tribute to a small place that shaped much larger stories.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line. You could add a line of verse or a meaningful date. Then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir works especially well for the dense hillside streets.
