Kyaiklat lies in the lower Ayeyarwady delta, one of the flattest landscapes in Southeast Asia and one of the most shaped by water. On a map the town appears as a compact grid of streets among channels and creeks, with the land around it divided into rice fields that stretch in every direction. The town is a local centre for the farming villages around it, and its streets are concentrated near the waterways that have long carried goods and people through the delta.
