Lubliniec lies in the north of Upper Silesia, Poland, close to the historic edge of the region and surrounded by extensive pine forests. On a map the town has a clear historic centre, a rectangular market square with streets leading off in several directions, and around it a wider ring of housing estates, villas and gardens that soon give way to woodland.
Railway lines converge on Lubliniec from several directions, making it a notable junction in the region, and their long, gently curving tracks are among the strongest graphic elements of the map. The town is also home to the Polish Army's commando unit, Jednostka Wojskowa Komandosów, whose presence is part of its modern identity. Forest roads and clearings fill the margins of any wider frame.
