Founded in 1953, it was planned as a new town, and the map shows it: neighbourhoods laid out in sweeping curves that follow the contours rather than a grid, each loop of road wrapping a cluster of apartment blocks and houses.
To the south the land drops away into the Jezreel Valley, a broad plain of rectangular fields crossed by straight roads and drainage lines.
