Murcia Map Poster & Print
Murcia lies in the broad valley of the Segura River in southeastern Spain, and the river crosses the city in a series of curves, separating the historic centre on the north bank from the El Carmen district to the south. Beyond the built area, the map dissolves into the huerta, a patchwork of orchards, villages and irrigation channels.
The huerta gives Murcia its particular look from above. A network of acequias, many with medieval roots, divides the flat land into small fields and threads between scattered hamlets, so the city blends into its surroundings rather than ending sharply. To the south, the bare ridges of the Sierra de Carrascoy rise abruptly from the valley floor.
The city was founded in 825 under the Umayyad emir Abd al-Rahman II, and its cathedral, with a baroque facade and tall bell tower, stands near the river. The Monteagudo hill, with its castle and statue of Christ, rises from the plain to the north. A Murcia map poster traces the Segura bends, the old streets and the ordered fields of the huerta.

The huerta
Around the city, a dense web of irrigation canals and lanes divides the valley into small plots, producing a fine, intricate pattern on the outer edges of the map.
Monteagudo hill
A steep, isolated rock north of the centre, topped by a castle and a statue of Christ, rising like a small island from the flat farmland.

Waarom Murcia
Een kaart met betekenis
Murcia is often overlooked in favour of the coast, but those who know it value its slow river, its old centre and the green belt of orchards around it. The map expresses that balance between city and countryside in a way few Spanish cities can.
Personalise the poster with your own title and subtitle, a date on the coordinates line and one of five styles, such as Sand or Paper, which suit the warm tones of the region. Files cost $9, with printed posters shipped from partners in more than 30 countries.
