Tikrīt Map Poster & Print
Tikrīt lies in northern Iraq on the west bank of the Tigris, north of Baghdad on the road to Mosul. The oldest part of the city sits on high ground above the river. On the map the urban area spreads westward from the bank across a flat, dry plateau, and main roads and the highway cut long, straight lines through the land around it.
The city has a long past. It is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of Saladin, the twelfth-century sultan. In modern times it was the home region of Saddam Hussein, whose large palace compound occupies a stretch of the riverbank. Tikrīt was heavily damaged in the fighting of 2014 and 2015 and has been gradually rebuilding since.
A Tikrīt map poster captures the relationship between river and plateau. The curving Tigris and its fields lie on one side, the regular blocks of the city on the other, and the wide open spaces of the palace grounds between them. It is a composition of strong contrasts that reads especially clearly in Classic black & white or Sand.

Palace compound
A large walled compound along the river, built as a presidential palace complex, appears next to the city as a distinct area of curving roads, buildings and open space.
Plateau city
West of the river the city spreads across flat, open ground in regular blocks and wide roads, giving the map a clear, orderly texture.
