Thury Castle
The square castle stands in the old centre. The streets around it are shorter and more irregular than the rest of the town, marking the historic core.

Várpalota Map Poster & Print
Várpalota lies in Veszprém county, western Hungary, in a gap between the Bakony hills and the Vértes range, halfway between Székesfehérvár and Veszprém. The town stretches along this valley. Its older core sits near the castle, with housing estates and later districts spreading outwards, and the main road and railway run through the valley alongside it.
The town's name refers to its castle, the Thury Castle, a square-planned fortress that was an important border stronghold in the Ottoman wars and still stands in the centre. In the twentieth century, lignite mining and industry, including the Inota power station, shaped the town. That industry left behind the regular estates and wide roads visible on the map.
A Várpalota map poster shows several eras side by side. The castle quarter has short, irregular streets, the socialist-era estates form clear rectangles, and wooded hills close in on both sides. It is a town layout full of history, drawn with lines alone.

Valley corridor
Road and rail run through the gap between the Bakony and the Vértes, giving the poster a strong diagonal and explaining the town's elongated shape.
Mining-era estates
Housing estates built in the industrial decades form regular blocks and wide streets, a clear geometric contrast with the old town beside them.
