Adelanto is a city in the Victor Valley of San Bernardino County, in California's high Mojave Desert, just west of Victorville. From above, it shows a pattern that is common in desert towns: a large rectangular grid of roads, with built-up neighbourhoods in some sections and open desert in others.
US Route 395 runs through the city, linking it with the Inland Empire to the south and the eastern Sierra to the north. The land around it is flat and dry, dotted with Joshua trees and creosote. On a map, this shows up as long, straight lines of roads set against empty space.
