Akalkuva, often spelled Akkalkuwa, is a town in Nandurbar district in the far north-west of Maharashtra, close to the border with Gujarat. The Satpura range rises to the north, and the town sits where the hill country opens into farmland. On a map, the settlement is compact and gathered around its main roads, with fields beyond.
The town is widely known for a large Islamic seminary, Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom, whose campus appears as a distinct cluster of buildings and courtyards. The surrounding area is largely rural and home to many Adivasi communities. Small roads run outward from the town to the villages in the landscape around it.
