Bahraigh, also written Bahraich, lies on the plains of northern Uttar Pradesh, not far from the border with Nepal. From above, the town has a dense old centre of narrow lanes and markets, with main roads leading out in several directions toward the surrounding farmland and district towns.
The land around it is flat and fertile, shaped by the Ghaghara river and its tributaries, whose shifting courses and floodplains lie to the south and west. A Bahraigh map poster shows the compact town set within this wide, open plain, crossed by roads, a railway and irrigation channels.
