Bedworth lies in north Warwickshire, between Coventry and Nuneaton. From above, it is a typical English Midlands town. A compact centre is surrounded by rows of terraced housing and postwar estates, with green space and farmland at the edges. The Coventry Canal curves through the area, following the contours as eighteenth-century canals did.
The town's growth was driven by coal. Mining shaped Bedworth for centuries, and the canal was built partly to carry coal to market. The almshouses founded by Nicholas Chamberlaine are among its oldest and best-known buildings. The motorway network passes close by to the south.
