Buraca is part of the municipality of Amadora, directly northwest of Lisbon's city limits. It was a parish in its own right until the 2013 administrative reform merged it into the larger parish of Águas Livres. On the map it forms part of the continuous urban fabric that spreads out from the capital along the main routes to Sintra.
The neighbourhood occupies uneven ground, and its streets climb and curve with the terrain. Apartment blocks, older low houses and small squares sit close together, while major roads and railway corridors pass nearby, drawing strong lines across the dense pattern. Green areas are scattered and small, which makes the built texture stand out even more.
