Chefushan lies in northern Jiangsu, in the Xuzhou area, where the landscape opens into the broad, level farmland of the Huang–Huai plain. From above, the settlement is compact. Its streets form a tight core, and beyond them the countryside is divided by long, straight farm roads into a patchwork that dominates the surrounding map.
Water shapes much of this region. Irrigation channels and drainage ditches run straight between fields, and larger waterways cross the countryside at intervals.
