Chibuto is a town in Gaza Province in southern Mozambique, set in the low, flat country of the Limpopo river basin. On the map, the centre has a modest grid of streets, a legacy of colonial-era planning, while the outer areas become looser, with tracks and paths running between homesteads and cultivated plots.
The Changane River, a tributary of the Limpopo, flows nearby, and the surrounding plains are used for farming and grazing. The region has also drawn attention for its heavy mineral sands deposits.
