Clement Town is a cantonment on the southern side of Dehradun, in the Doon Valley of Uttarakhand. The Shivalik hills rise to the south and the Himalayan foothills to the north. As a military cantonment, it has a more open layout than the dense city centre, with wide roads, generous plots and plenty of trees.
The area is also home to a significant Tibetan community. The Mindrolling Monastery, rebuilt here after the exile from Tibet, has a large stupa that is one of the tallest in India and a landmark visitors come to see. On the map, the monastery grounds appear as a distinct, well-defined enclosure.

Mindrolling Monastery
The monastery compound, with its great stupa, forms a clearly bounded space within the street pattern. It is the centre of the local Tibetan community.
Valley streams
Watercourses coming down from the hills run across the Doon Valley. Their curving paths break up the straight roads and appear as quiet lines on the print.
