Dhāriwāl is a town in Gurdaspur district, in the north of Indian Punjab, on the flat, intensively farmed plain between the Beas and Ravi rivers. It is best known for its woollen mill, founded in the late nineteenth century, whose blankets and cloth made the name Dhāriwāl familiar across India. The mill's large compound is still one of the most prominent features on the map.
The Upper Bari Doab Canal, one of the major irrigation works of colonial Punjab, passes through the town and once supplied the mill with water. Upper Bari Doab Canal
The major irrigation canal runs through Dhāriwāl in a long, steady line. It is one of the clearest features of the poster and a reminder of how water shaped the region.
